Breast Reconstruction New Jersey

Breast Surgeon

Breast reconstruction can help create natural-looking breasts for women who have undergone a mastectomy, double mastectomy, or another surgery or treatment that has removed part or all of a patient’s breast. After a mastectomy, a woman may feel uncomfortable or self-conscious about her appearance. Breast reconstruction can help restore a woman’s sense of femininity and sexuality that some women lose after winning the battle against breast cancer.

What Is Breast Reconstruction?

Breast reconstruction, also referred to as reconstruction mammoplasty, can help recreate natural-looking breasts for women who have had cancer treatments, a lumpectomy, or another breast surgery where some or all breast tissue was removed. With continuing improvements in breast reconstructive surgery, plastic surgeons have been able to create breasts that closely match the appearance, shape, and size of your breasts prior to a lumpectomy or mastectomy. In many cases, breast reconstruction after a mastectomy or lumpectomy can be performed immediately following your breast surgery.

Breast reconstruction can be achieved through saline breast implants to create symmetrical, full breasts. At Asaadi Plastic Surgery, we only use saline breast implants for the most beautiful, symmetrical results possible. A saline breast implant is made of a salt-water solution, which provides natural-looking results. Some breast reconstruction techniques use saline breast implants where other techniques do not use any breast implants. Natural breast transfer can also be performed as a breast reconstruction technique.

Breast reconstruction after a lumpectomy creates a pocket using a tissue expander in your breast where a saline breast implant can be placed. The process of creating a pocket in your breast takes 2 procedures to complete, with saline breast implants being placed in the second procedure. In some cases of breast reconstruction, using a tissue expander can create the breast mound, so no breast implants are needed. The process of breast reconstruction begins with carefully creating a pocket in your breast. This pocket may be the mound of your breast or where a saline breast implant is inserted. Discreet sutures will be placed to close any incisions if saline breast implants were placed. After the creation of this pocket and the placement of breast implants, further contouring or shaping may be achieved with fat grafting.

What Can I Expect Before My Breast Reconstruction Surgery?

The decision to have breast reconstruction surgery can happen long before you undergo a mastectomy or lumpectomy. If you are diagnosed with cancer, precancerous cells, or other medical conditions that will require some or all of your breast tissue to be removed, you can begin discussing your breast reconstruction options with our NY and NJ breast surgeon. Individually customizing breast reconstruction surgery for each patient, Dr. Asaadi can help you create an effective breast reconstruction treatment regime for natural-looking results. An ideal breast reconstruction patient is looking to improve the appearance of their breasts after a mastectomy, lumpectomy, or other breast surgery.

What Can I Expect After My Breast Reconstruction Surgery?

Following your breast reconstruction procedure, you may feel sore, uncomfortable, and tired. Common side effects include slight bruising, swelling, or inflammation. These side effects should diminish in the days and weeks following your breast reconstruction surgery. A drain may be placed in order to remove any excess fluids. Your recovery time will depend on what technique of breast reconstruction you are undergoing, the extent of surgery, and your body’s own rate of healing.

In most cases, stitches can be removed 1-2 weeks after your breast reconstruction surgery. For complicated cases of breast reconstruction after a mastectomy, the recovery time may last from 6-7 weeks. All strenuous activity must be stopped until you have been cleared by Dr. Asaadi.

The Importance Of Choosing A Highly Experienced Breast Reconstruction Surgeon

It is important that you choose a skilled breast reconstruction surgeon who understands your individual anatomy. When the right plastic surgeon performs breast reconstruction, there is usually no need for a revision. Dr. Asaadi stresses the importance of choosing a qualified, experienced, and board-certified plastic surgeon when considering breast reconstruction.
