Breast implant replacement is performed to remove current breast implants and replace them with new implants. This procedure is available at Asaadi Plastic Surgery to remove, replace, and reposition the breast implants and provide the patient with their desired appearance. A common reason for replacing breast implants is to reposition the implants to better fit your body’s physique. Reasons to consider this procedure, and the right time for breast implant replacement can be based on cosmetic factors and medical concerns.
When to Replace Breast Implants
The time to replace breast implants can vary from patient to patient. Age, health, personal changes or preferences, and the expertise of your surgeon can determine how often breast implants need to be replaced. Choosing a skilled, board-certified plastic surgeon is essential for any surgery. Important details your surgeon should consider when preforming breast implant surgery includes skin laxity, height, and body composition of their patient. If an unskilled surgeon does not take these factors into consideration, the results may look less natural. These factors can greatly impact the results of breast implant procedures.
Cosmetic Reasons to Remove Breast Implants
-
A patient may choose to replace their implants because they are unhappy with the current size or shape and want to either increase or decrease the size of their implants.
-
Some patients may gain or lose weight, changing the proportions of the body which alters the look of the implants. New implants can better fit a patient’s body physique.
-
If a patient is unhappy with the results of their implants from another surgeon. This can occur due to the previous doctor having incorrect knowledge of the patient’s anatomy. Skin laxity, height, and body composition of the patient are important to consider when choosing the size and shape of breast implants.
-
Exchanging silicone implants to saline implants, which are known to be safer and more natural-looking than silicone implants. Dr. Asaadi only uses saline breast implants.
Medical Reasons to Remove Breast Implants
-
If the patient is involved in an accident or experience trauma, the implant may leak or rupture. Removal and replacement would be required in this scenario.
-
The possibility of infection or capsular contracture can also occur with breast implants, although it is rare. Capsular contracture is a medical condition where the tissue surrounding the implant becomes too firm. This requires removal and replacement of the implant.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Many women who are fighting breast cancer often undergo a mastectomy or double mastectomy in order to treat existing cancer or prevent it from forming in high-risk cases.
During this procedure, all or part of the patient’s breasts may be removed.
While every woman approaches and experiences a mastectomy in their own way, it can sometimes leave a patient feeling mournful, insecure, or anxious.
At Asaadi Plastic Surgery, breast reconstruction surgery is offered to help restore the sense of femininity and sexuality that some women feel they lose after winning their courageous battle with breast cancer.
What is Breast Reconstruction Surgery?
Breast reconstruction surgery, also known as reconstruction mammoplasty, restores natural-looking breasts for women who have lost breast tissue as a result of a mastectomy, lumpectomy, or other medical procedures.
How is Breast Reconstruction Surgery Performed?
During breast reconstruction surgery, a tissue expander is used to create a pocket in which a saline breast implant can be inserted. After the implant is placed, Dr. Asaadi will use discreet sutures to close the incisions. In some cases, this will create a breast mound, so an implant may not be needed.
After the pocket is created, further symmetry and contours can be achieved through fat grafting. During this procedure, fat is harvested from other areas of the body, such as the back or abdomen, and transferred to the breasts.
What are the Benefits of Breast Reconstruction Surgery?
-
Restored size, shape, and appearance of the breasts
-
Natural-looking results
-
Can be performed immediately following mastectomy or lumpectomy
-
Restores a sense of confidence and femininity

Breast augmentation is a common cosmetic procedure performed to enhance breast size and shape. This surgery uses implants to increase breast size, providing patients with a fuller or more feminine-looking chest.
While breast implants remain a common plastic surgery procedure, many patients are choosing to remove their implants for a variety of reasons. Over the years, as our bodies change shape and size, some patients may feel their breast implants no longer suit their figure. In some cases, patients may seek breast explant surgery following capsular contracture or other complications. Silicone breast implants are also commonly removed to switch to saline implants, known to be safer and more natural-looking. Whether you’re seeking breast implant removal for medical or aesthetic concerns, Dr. Asaadi can perform breast implant removal and breast implant replacement based on your goals and desires.
What is Breast Implant Removal?
Breast implant removal is performed to extract breast implants from a previous breast augmentation. The procedure can also remove any residual scar tissue.
What is Breast Implant Replacement?
Breast implant replacement is performed in order to replace existing breast implants with ones that are safer or more suitable for the patient. Dr. Asaadi offers breast implant revision to remove old implants with implants that fit your anatomy. Dr. Asaadi only uses saline breast implants.
Reasons for Breast Implant Removal or Replacement
-
Unhappiness With Breast Size
-
Correct Implant Rupture or Leakage
-
An Infection
-
Correct Results from a Previous Surgeon
-
Change in Physique
-
Accident or Injury to Breast Implant
What to Expect Before Breast Implant Removal or Replacement
Before your breast implant removal or replacement, Dr. Asaadi will perform a thorough examination to assess your current implants and create a plan that will fit your needs. During the procedure, anesthesia will be administered to ensure your comfort and safety throughout the process. The implants will then be removed from a small incision under the breast. New implants will be inserted through this same incision if the patient has chosen to replace them.
What to Expect After Breast Implant Removal or Replacement
The recovery process following a breast implant removal or replacement will vary depending on the patient, considering everyone heals at different rates. Swelling, discomfort, and bruising are common and will gradually subside as the healing process progresses. It is important that patients rest and allow their bodies proper time to mend.
Breast Implant Removal Paired with Breast Lift
Oftentimes, breast lift surgery is recommended following breast implant removal. After larger implants are removed, the breast tissue can be weakened and sagging. A breast lift can remove excess skin and reposition the nipples, creating a youthful-looking, perkier chest. The results of breast implant removal paired with breast lift appear natural and are long-lasting.

As you age, you may notice that your breasts are beginning to sag or droop. For women with larger breasts, this sagging may occur even earlier.
While many patients have considered breast augmentation with implants to improve the size and shape of their breasts, many patients may also benefit from a breast lift.
Combining breast augmentation with a breast lift can add volume to the breasts while lifting the breasts to a more youthful position.
What Is Breast Augmentation?
Breast implants can add natural-looking volume, shape, and definition the breasts. At Asaadi Plastic Surgery, we only use saline breast implants during breast augmentation.
What Is A Breast Lift?
During a breast lift, excess skin is removed from the breasts, and the breasts are lifted. Following breast lift, the nipples are also repositioned to a more youthful position for the most natural-looking results.
Combining Breast Augmentation & A Breast Lift
While there are many benefits from undergoing breast augmentation or a breast lift, combining these procedures can make even more of a difference in women who are unhappy with the appearance of their breasts. During a breast augmentation with breast lift, the breasts are simultaneously lifted and enlarged for a fuller, more youthful-looking appearance. Breast augmentation can help you achieve the size and shape breasts you desire while a breast lift helps you achieve the youthful placement of your breasts.
How Do I Know If I Need A Breast Augmentation With Lift?
It may be difficult for some women to know if they need breast augmentation, a breast lift, or both. If you are unhappy with the size, shape, and symmetry of your breasts, you may benefit from breast augmentation. On the other hand, women who are dissatisfied with sagging or drooping breasts may choose to undergo a breast lift. For women who are both unhappy with the size of their breasts as well as potential sagging, a breast augmentation with breast lift is often suggested.
Reasons For Breast Augmentation With Lift:
-
Sagging Breasts
-
Flattened, Elongated Breasts
-
Nipples That Point Downward
-
Nipples That Sit Below The Breast Crease
-
Asymmetrical Breasts

Breast augmentation is a popular breast enhancement surgery that uses implants to add volume to the breasts. While breast augmentation is a safe and effective treatment, some patients may one day choose to remove or replace their breast implants.
Breast explant surgery is designed to remove breast implants for cosmetic or medical concerns. Patients sometimes choose to combine breast explant surgery with breast augmentation to remove past implants and replace them with new implants. Replacing previous implants following breast explant surgery can maintain the size and shape of the breasts.
Breast lift surgery may also be combined with breast explant surgery to ensure the breasts are youthful-looking following the removal of breast implants.
Breast Implant Cosmetic Concerns
Patients often choose to undergo breast explant surgery when they are concerned about the cosmetic appearance of their breast implants. Some patients may feel they would like a larger or smaller size implant to better complement changes to their physique over time.
While the implants may not be causing any harm, some patients prefer to replace their current breast implants with new implants or remove the breast implants altogether.
Breast Implants Are Too Large: If a patient has lost significant weight or no longer desires the size implants that they have, breast explant surgery can remove implants that no longer complement a patient’s figure. If the patient desires, Dr. Asaadi can replace these implants with smaller breast implants.
Breast Implants Are Too Small: Some patients wish to increase overall breast size. In these cases, breast explant surgery can be performed to remove breast implants and combined with revision breast augmentation to insert larger implants.
Breast Implants Appear Unnatural-Looking: If a patient has undergone breast augmentation with a less skilled plastic surgeon, Dr. Asaadi can remove breast implants and replace them. Revision breast augmentation can also be performed if the patient desires.
No Longer Desire Breast Implants: Sometimes, a patient may simply no longer desire breast implants. Breast explant surgery can be performed to remove breast implants. In many cases, a breast lift is performed to ensure the breasts appear youthful following the removal of breast implants.
Breast Implant Medical Concerns
While breast augmentation is a very safe cosmetic procedure, there are certain medical concerns that may arise from having breast implants. Through Dr. Asaadi’s years in practice, he has accomplished a 100% success rate of breast implant surgery without medical concerns such as capsular contracture or implant leakage.
Breast Implant Infection: Breast explant can remove implants that have caused a bacterial infection in the tissue around the implants.
Capsular Contracture: Capsular contracture causes the tissues in the breasts to tighten and become too firm, which can lead to the breasts being painful or unnatural-looking. Breast explant surgery is required to remove these implants and treat the underlying medical condition.
Breast Implant Rupture: A breast implant may rupture or leak following an accident or physical trauma. A leaking or damaged breast implant must be removed to ensure proper breast health.
Dr. Asaadi and our staff welcome any questions you may have about breast explant, as well as our other breast enhancement treatments. Contact our New Jersey office at 913.731.7000, our New York office at 212.938.0158, or you may request an appointment online today!
