Combination Forehead Lift & Eyelid Surgery In NJ For A Younger-Looking Facial Profile

POSTED ON WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 14, 2020 AT 11:15 AM by Dr. Mokhtar Asaadi

The signs of facial aging are usually most prominent around the eyes and brows. Forehead lines, drooping eyelids, and bags under the eyes are some of the most common indicators of aging. However, surgical treatments are available to restore a youthful-looking, rejuvenated expression. Our New Jersey plastic surgeon specializes in forehead lift surgery and eyelid surgery to reduce sagging and smooth fine lines.

Blepharoplasty To Rejuvenate The Eyes

Eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty, can reposition and remove loose skin around the upper or lower eyelids. As you age, your skin naturally begins to lose firmness and elasticity over time. This can lead to sagging eyelids. Patients with drooping skin around the eyes often seek a surgical solution to revitalize their facial profile. Blepharoplasty is designed to correct the underlying conditions that contribute to sagging eyelids: excess fat pockets and lax skin.

Our NJ plastic surgeon can also perform festoon surgery to treat troublesome under-eye bags. Festoons are a genetic condition that can cause puffiness under the eyes. Dr. Asaadi can diagnose the cause of your festoons (either excess fat or lax muscles) and can surgically remove excess fat deposits under the skin or release the ligaments of underlying eye muscles to correct puffiness.

Brow Lift To Treat Forehead Lines

A brow lift, often referred to as a forehead lift, can target sagging brows and forehead furrows. These conditions are typically the result of aging, stress, sun exposure, and repeated facial expressions. A brow lift can reduce the prominence of fine lines across the forehead. During brow lift surgery, underlying tissues are carefully repositioned to raise the brows. Excess skin may also be removed to smooth forehead furrows for a more youthful expression.

Combination Forehead Lift & Eyelid Surgery

Some patients may be candidates for both brow lift surgery and blepharoplasty. Combining these facial rejuvenation techniques can address eyelid puffiness, sagging upper eyelids, drooping brows, and forehead lines in a single treatment. Patients can also expect less recovery time overall, as opposed to undergoing eyelid surgery and forehead lift surgery separately. These procedures are designed to achieve natural-looking, long-lasting improvements to your facial profile.

Dr. Asaadi and our staff welcome any questions you may have about forehead lift surgery or eyelid surgery, as well as our other facial rejuvenation procedures. Contact our New Jersey office at 913.731.7000, our New York office at 212.938.0158, or you may request an appointment online today!

Festoon Treatment NJ – How Under Eye Bags Are Treated

POSTED ON MONDAY, JUNE 08, 2020 AT 1:58 PM by Dr. Mokhtar Asaadi

Under eye bags forming swollen areas around the lower eyelids can be caused by a genetic condition known as festoons, or malar bags. Festoons create puffy bags beneath the eyes, which can give you a tired, older-looking appearance. If you are looking to revitalize your look by treating your under eye bags, festoon treatment may take years off of your appearance and provide you with long-term, rejuvenating results.

A key component to treating festoons is correctly diagnosing the root cause. Many plastic surgeons misdiagnose under-eye bags, leading to short-term or dissatisfactory resolutions.

To combat misdiagnosis, Dr. Asaadi developed the “Botox® Test”. During the Botox® Test, a small amount of Botox® is injected into the area surrounding the eye, and the response is observed. If the appearance of malar mounds remains unchanged, this indicates they are caused by excess fat. If the appearance of festoons worsens however, this indicates that the root cause is most likely muscle laxity. Making this initial diagnosis allows for more precise treatment which can produce long-lasting improvements to the appearance of under-eye bags.

Depending upon your malar bag diagnosis, you may receive one of two treatments. If it is determined that your malar mounds are caused by excess fat deposits underneath the skin, these pockets of fat will be surgically removed. If your festoons are caused by muscle laxity, the ligaments of the surrounding eye muscles may be released to reduce the puffy appearance associated with festoons, and if beneficial, a portion of the muscle may be removed, and the remaining muscles reattached to a more stable area below the eyelid.

Festoon treatment is a difficult, highly individualized procedure, but when performed by a skilled plastic surgeon who understands your unique anatomy, treatment can provide long-term results with no need for further revision.

Dr. Asaadi and our staff welcome any questions you have about festoon treatment, as well as our other facial rejuvenation procedures. Eyelid Surgery – Fixing Bags Under Eyes

POSTED ON THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 19, 2019 AT 10:10 AM by Dr. Mokhtar Asaadi

As we age, our skin begins to lose elasticity, resulting in sagging on the arms, legs, face, and neck. All of these changes, but especially those in our face, can make us feel self-conscious about our appearance, and impact how others perceive us. Transformations in one of our most emotive features, our eyes, are especially capable of making us look older or tired.

As one of the most important features for communication and connection, it is essential we feel confident in the appearance of our eyes. For drooping, puffy, and tired eyes, eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, can rejuvenate the eyes for a youthful-looking appearance.

What Is Eyelid Surgery?

Eyelid surgery is designed to tighten the skin around the eyes and remove malar mounds, or bags around the lower eyelid. Sagging skin of the upper and lower eyelids is tightened by separating fatty tissue and muscle, and trimming away any excess skin.

The sensitive skin of the lower eyelids requires additional precision in the reshaping and repositioning of the skin to remove a puffy or hollow appearance. Alongside eyelid surgery, festoons, or puffy bags under the eye, may be surgically removed to provide a more complete revitalization of the eyes.

Festoons are typically caused by excess fat deposits or muscle laxity, and after determining the cause of your malar bags, Dr. Asaadi can directly address the source by removing fat deposits underneath the eye, or by releasing the ligaments of the surrounding eye muscles.

How Are Under Eye Bags Diagnosed?

Malar bags or festoons typically have one of two causes: excess fat deposits or muscle laxity. In order to diagnose the cause of malar bags, Dr. Asaadi pioneered the “Botox ® Test ”, during which a small amount of Botox® is injected into the orbicularis oculi (the muscle surrounding the eye), and the response to the injection is measured. A worsening of festoons indicates the likely cause is muscle laxity, while no change in the appearance of malar bags indicates that the presence of excess fat is the probable source.

The drooping skin and excess fat treated during eyelid surgery can provide a long-lasting enhancement in the appearance of the eyelids, and help achieve a natural, more youthful appearance. Incisions are also placed in the natural creases of the eyelids to ensure any post-procedure scarring remains concealed.

Dr. Asaadi and our staff welcome any questions you may have about eyelid surgery or malar bag treatment, as well as our other facial rejuvenation procedures. Contact our New Jersey office at 973.731.7000, our New York office at 212.938.0158, or you may request an appointment online today!

What Causes Bags Under Eyes? Diagnosing Festoons & Malar Bags

POSTED ON TUESDAY, DECEMBER 07, 2021 AT 8:49 AM by Dr. Mokhtar Asaadi

Festoons, or malar bags, are genetic conditions that create puffy bags under the eyes and above the cheeks. This puffiness may appear similar to dark circles under the eyes and can result in an older, tired-looking appearance. Although malar bags are fairly common, their cause is often misdiagnosed, resulting in improper treatment and dissatisfactory results. New Jersey plastic surgeon, Dr. Mokhtar Asaadi has developed a unique method to determine the cause of festoons and ensure the development of a proper treatment plan to rejuvenate the eyelids.

Malar Bag & Festoon Diagnosis

Malar bags or festoons typically have one of two causes: excess fat deposits or muscle laxity. In order to diagnose the cause of malar bags, Dr. Asaadi pioneered the “Botox ® Test ”, during which a small amount of Botox® is injected into the orbicularis oculi (the muscle surrounding the eye), and the response to the injection is measured.

A worsening of festoons indicates the likely cause is muscle laxity, while no change in the appearance of malar bags indicates that the presence of excess fat is the probable source.

Malar Bag & Festoon Treatment

After determining the source of your malar bags, Dr. Asaadi can then address the cause by either surgically removing fat deposits underneath the eye, or by releasing the ligaments of the surrounding eye muscles. In some cases of muscle laxity, a portion of the eye muscle may be removed, and if necessary, the remaining muscle may be attached to a stable area below the eyelid. The treatment of festoons can result in a long-lasting, youthful, and refreshed appearance.

Dr. Asaadi and our staff welcome any questions you may have about malar bag or festoon treatment, as well as our other facial rejuvenation procedures. Contact our New Jersey office at 973.731.7000, our New York office at 212.938.0158, or you may request an appointment online today!
