Treatments For Festoons & Malar Bags!

POSTED ON TUESDAY, JULY 10, 2018 AT 2:14 PM by Dr. Mokhtar Asaadi

Festoons and malar bags are genetic conditions that are often misdiagnosed and, as a result, not treated properly. These conditions present themselves as puffy bags and dark circles under the eyes. At Asaadi Plastic Surgery, our New Jersey plastic surgeon has over 30 years of experience treating complex conditions like festoons and achieving natural-looking results. Dr. Asaadi has developed unique methods of diagnosing and treating the root causes of festoons and malar bags to restore youthful-looking eyelids.

Diagnosing Festoons & Malar Bags

Dr. Asaadi has developed the “Botox® Test” to properly identify the causes of your malar bags or festoons. During this test, a small amount of Botox® is injected into the area around your eye, known as the orbicularis oculi. If your festoons get worse after the injection, then the likely cause is muscle laxity. If there is no change in your festoons after the Botox® injection, then the likely cause is excess fat.

Treating Festoons & Malar Bags

Following the Botox® Test, Dr. Asaadi can properly treat the underlying causes of your festoons or malar bags. For festoons that are caused by muscle laxity, Dr. Asaadi can release the ligaments of the surrounding eye muscles and can remove part of the muscles, if necessary. For festoons caused by excess fat, Dr. Asaadi can surgically remove fat pockets beneath the skin.

While many plastic surgery practices simply try to treat festoons or malar bags using traditional blepharoplasty techniques, Dr. Asaadi addresses the root causes in order to correct these genetic conditions and achieve substantial results.

Dr. Asaadi and our staff welcome any questions you may have about malar bags and festoons, as well as our other facial rejuvenation procedures. Contact our New Jersey office at 973.731.7000, our New York office at 212.938.0158, or you may request an appointment online today!

Upper & Lower Blepharoplasty To Restore Youthful Eyelids!

POSTED ON FRIDAY, MAY 04, 2018 AT 1:39 PM by Dr. Mokhtar Asaadi

The eyes are one of the first facial areas to experience the signs of aging. Drooping eyelids, puffy under-eye bags, and festoons can each contribute to an older-looking, tired appearance. Upper and lower blepharoplasty can achieve youthful-looking eyelids by surgically correcting hollowness and puffiness of the eyes. Learn more about your eyelid surgery options below.

Upper Blepharoplasty

Upper blepharoplasty can treat sagging skin above the eyelids. During upper eyelid surgery, loose skin is repositioned or removed. The underlying musculature can also be tightened to improve firmness.

Lower Blepharoplasty

During lower blepharoplasty, under-eye bags can be surgically corrected. Puffiness or bulging can be reduced by selectively tightening each layer of the lower eyelids. Loose skin and underlying muscles are repositioned and tiny amounts of excess fat can also be removed.

Festoon Treatment

Festoons and malar bags can contribute to eyelid puffiness and dark circles. These genetic conditions may be caused be either excess fat or muscle laxity. In order to properly diagnose the cause of your festoons or malar bags, Dr. Asaadi can perform a “Botox® Test.” During this test, Botox® is injected into the areas around your eyes. If your festoons get worse following the injection, then they are most likely caused by muscle laxity. However, if there is no change in your malar bags after your Botox® injection, then your festoons are likely caused by excess fat.

Once Dr. Asaadi properly diagnoses your festoons or malar bags, he can surgically correct them by removing fat deposits or releasing the ligaments of your surrounding eye muscles.

Dr. Asaadi’s Approaches to Eyelid Surgery!

POSTED ON FRIDAY, MAY 12, 2017 AT 1:53 PM by Dr. Mokhtar Asaadi

When performing blepharoplasty, Dr. Asaadi can treat both the upper and lower eyelids for a balanced result. Combining upper and lower eyelid surgery can achieve a more-youthful, refreshed appearance.

Blepharoplasty can treat a variety of conditions, including drooping upper lids, under-eye bags, malar mounds, and festoons.

A trained eye and rigorous attention-to-detail are required during eyelid surgery in order to achieve a natural-looking result.

Learn more about blepharoplasty below.

Upper Blepharoplasty

Upper eyelid surgery is designed to reduce sagging or drooping skin above the lids. During upper blepharoplasty, loose skin over the lid can be repositioned or removed.

Underlying muscle can also be tightened for a firmer-looking appearance.

Lower Blepharoplasty

Lower blepharoplasty can treat puffy or bulging below the eyelids. Dr. Asaadi addresses each layer of the lower eyelids differently when performing eyelid surgery.

Lax skin and muscle are selectively tightened and repositioned in order to achieve an optimal result. Small amounts of excess fat beneath the eyelids can also be removed, if necessary.

Malar Mounds & Festoons

Dr. Asaadi also treats malar mounds and festoons, which are addressed differently than traditional eyelid surgery. A “Botox® Test” can be utilized to determine the cause of your malar bags or festoons. During this test, a small amount of Botox® is injected into the muscle around the eye, known as the orbicularis oculi. If this injection leads to a temporary worsening of your symptoms, then this shows that muscle laxity is the root cause of your malar mounds or festoons. If so, Dr. Asaadi can address the underlying ligaments within the muscle to correct these conditions. If there is no change in your malar bags or festoons after undergoing a Botox® injection, then the cause is most likely underlying fat pockets. These can be removed surgically to treat your festoon or malar mound.

Rejuvenate The Appearance Of Aging Eyes And Brows!

POSTED ON THURSDAY, MAY 12, 2016 AT 3:11 PM by Dr. Mokhtar Asaadi

Did you know the eyes are among the first areas to display the signs of aging? Sagging brows, puffy under-eye bags, and frown lines may begin to appear around the eyes over time, due to aging, stress, lifestyle choices, or sun exposure. These effects can result in an older-looking, tired appearance. At Asaadi Plastic Surgery, we provide brow lift surgery and blepharoplasty to rejuvenate the eyes by improving forehead furrows and drooping eyelids.

Lift Sagging Brows

Over time, the muscles and tissues around the forehead tend to sag downwards. A brow lift targets these forehead tissues that contribute to drooping brows and horizontal lines. During your brow lift procedure, small incisions are made to carefully reposition tissues, reducing the appearance of fine lines. Additionally, excess skin can be removed to address forehead wrinkling and provide a long-lasting lifting effect to the brows. For patients looking for a non-surgical alternative to a forehead lift, Botox® injections can be used to alter the position of the eyebrows. Botox® can relax forehead muscles by temporarily preventing nerve impulses, leading to a reduction in fine lines.

Contour The Eyelids

Blepharoplasty can address both the upper and lower eyelids for a rejuvenated expression. Upper blepharoplasty targets excess skin above the eyelids, as well as small amounts of fat. Your blepharoplasty surgeon will remove skin from the eyelids, while also trimming excess fat to reshape the lids.

Lower blepharoplasty takes aim at puffy under-eye bags and hollowing that may occur below the eyelids. Lower eyelid surgery tightens muscle and repositions fat pockets around the lower eyelid to restore a smooth appearance. Small amounts of excess skin can be removed, if necessary, to ensure natural-looking, youthful results.

Dr. Asaadi and our staff welcome any questions you may have about forehead lift or blepharoplasty, as well as any of our other facial rejuvenation procedures. Contact our New Jersey office at 973.731.7000, our New York office at 212-938-0158, or you may request an appointment online today!
