The Right New Jersey Plastic Surgeon for Scar Treatment

POSTED ON FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 18, 2011 AT 4:11 PM  by Dr. Mokhtar Asaadi

If you have a thick, tight scar that you would like to improve the appearance of, you may be a good candidate for aponeurotomy. Aponeurotomy is a minimally invasive technique that can improve the appearance of scars. Originally developed and used in France over 20 years ago for the treatment of Dupuytren’s Contracture, New York and New Jersey plastic surgeon Dr. Asaadi has achieved excellent results using this technique on scars.

During an aponeurotomy treatment, Dr. Asaadi will insert a sharp needle under the skin to release the scar. In the small holes created by the needle, Dr. Asaadi will inject fat cells that have been harvested from another part of the body. By releasing the scar, aponeurotomy can help to alleviate some of the tightness that often accompanies scars. In addition to improved comfort, scientific evidence suggests that the stem cell properties of the fat cells lead to better skin quality, improving the appearance of the scar.

Aponeurotomy can be used to treat any type of scar in nearly any location on the body, but it is especially useful in treating scars that cause tightness or limit range of motion. It can be performed using local anesthesia, results in virtually no additional scarring, and is followed by a fast recovery period. In some cases, scars may require more than one aponeurotomy treatment.
