Dr. Asaadi’s Approaches to Eyelid Surgery!

POSTED ON FRIDAY, MAY 12, 2017 AT 1:53 PM  by Dr. Mokhtar Asaadi

When performing blepharoplasty, Dr. Asaadi can treat both the upper and lower eyelids for a balanced result. Combining upper and lower eyelid surgery can achieve a more-youthful, refreshed appearance.

Blepharoplasty can treat a variety of conditions, including drooping upper lids, under-eye bags, malar mounds, and festoons.

A trained eye and rigorous attention-to-detail are required during eyelid surgery in order to achieve a natural-looking result.

Learn more about blepharoplasty below.

Upper Blepharoplasty

Upper eyelid surgery is designed to reduce sagging or drooping skin above the lids. During upper blepharoplasty, loose skin over the lid can be repositioned or removed.

Underlying muscle can also be tightened for a firmer-looking appearance.

Lower Blepharoplasty

Lower blepharoplasty can treat puffy or bulging below the eyelids. Dr. Asaadi addresses each layer of the lower eyelids differently when performing eyelid surgery.

Lax skin and muscle are selectively tightened and repositioned in order to achieve an optimal result. Small amounts of excess fat beneath the eyelids can also be removed, if necessary.

Malar Mounds & Festoons

Dr. Asaadi also treats malar mounds and festoons, which are addressed differently than traditional eyelid surgery. A “Botox® Test” can be utilized to determine the cause of your malar bags or festoons. During this test, a small amount of Botox® is injected into the muscle around the eye, known as the orbicularis oculi. If this injection leads to a temporary worsening of your symptoms, then this shows that muscle laxity is the root cause of your malar mounds or festoons. If so, Dr. Asaadi can address the underlying ligaments within the muscle to correct these conditions. If there is no change in your malar bags or festoons after undergoing a Botox® injection, then the cause is most likely underlying fat pockets. These can be removed surgically to treat your festoon or malar mound.
