Excess eyelid skin, puffiness, bags, and eye shape can contribute to an aging facial profile. Changes to the eyelids oftentimes cause patients to look more tired or older than they are. While over-the-counter creams and lotions aim to alleviate the signs of aging eyes, some may require more intense treatments such as plastic surgery.
At Asaadi Plastic Surgery, we offer a wide range of procedures to target the signs of aging eyes, from non-invasive treatments to cosmetic surgeries. Dr. Asaadi has become a familiar name for patients seeking eyelid surgery in NJ and from patients afar. He is one of just a handful of plastic surgeons who truly understands the nuances of the eyelid and the meticulousness involved when it comes to eyelid surgery. Learn more about these treatments below.
Blepharoplasty
Blepharoplasty, also known as eyelid surgery, removes excess skin and fat from the upper and lower eyelids while reshaping the lower eyelid. Excess skin and fat can contribute to drooping or sagging around the eye and lead to a puffy, tired appearance. In some cases, it may also result in impaired vision. Dr. Asaadi addresses each level of the eyelid, selectively tightening and repositioning as he goes for the best results. Blepharoplasty provides long-lasting enhancements to the eye for restored youthfulness.
Festoon Surgery
Festoons are a genetic condition that appear as swollen bags around the lower eyelids and above the cheeks, like dark circles. Festoon surgery removes the bags underneath the skin to improve the appearance of the eyes. Dr. Asaadi uses his “Botox® Test” to find the root cause of festoons and properly remove the festoons. Festoon surgery provides patients with a refreshed appearance.
Malar Bag Surgery
Malar bag surgery removes swollen bags that appear between the undereye and cheek area. Malar bags can occur for a variety of reasons and can get worse with age as collagen production decreases. Dr. Asaadi utilizes his “Botox® Test” to diagnose the cause of malar bags and create an appropriate treatment plan. Undergoing malar bag surgery can provide patients with a restored and youthful-looking profile.
Canthopexy & Canthoplasty
Canthopexy and Canthoplasty are surgical procedures used to create a rested, younger look by addressing the outer corner of the eye. Canthopexy is less invasive, tightening the outer eye corner to address loose excess skin, sagging or drooping. Canthoplasty is commonly known as “cat eye surgery”, providing a more intense eye shape change as it lifts the outer corner. Canthopexy and Canthoplasty can provide patents with symmetrical eyes, correct sagging or drooping lower eyelids, and achieve a revitalized, aesthetically pleasing appearance.
Revision Festoon Surgery
Revision festoon surgery corrects results of past treatments and surgery meant to reduce or remove festoons. Festoons are incredibly difficult to treat, but there is usually no need for secondary surgery if going to the right and experienced plastic surgeon. Revision festoon surgery can address scarring, eyelid retraction, ectropion, partial removals, and aesthetic concerns.
Revision Malar Bag Surgery
Revision malar bag surgery fixes past malar bag treatments or surgical results. This procedure is normally unnecessary if the malar bags are removed correctly to begin with. Since malar bags occur in a sensitive area of the face, when they are treated incorrectly, they can damage the skin while worsening the appearance of malar bags. Revision malar bag surgery can correct issues from past treatments.
Non-Surgical Blepharoplasty
Non-surgical blepharoplasty corrects sunken eyes and fine lines or wrinkles surrounding the eye. Cosmetic fillers and Botox® can restore volume around the eyes to provide an instant rejuvenating effect. This non-invasive technique allows patients to return to their daily activities immediately and enjoy rejuvenating results for years.
Upneeq®
Upneeq® is a non-surgical eyelid lift, utilizing FDA approved eye drops to provide easy application and rapid results. These eye drops target the muscles of the eyelids, causing them to contract upwards, and widen the eye opening. Widening the eye opening not only addresses aesthetic concerns, but can improve field of vision. Upneeq® treats dropping eyelids in as little as one treatment and delivers a well-rested appearance.

Taking the steps to remove festoons by undergoing festoon surgery or non-invasive treatments only to be left with incomplete festoon removal, complications, or a worse appearance can take a toll on a person’s health and self-esteem. Revision festoon surgery is a secondary surgical procedure to correct the results or fix complications from previous festoon surgery or treatments.
What Are Festoons?
Festoons are pockets of fluid that surface on the face between the eyelid and cheek region and can occur for a variety of reasons. Festoons contribute to a tired appearance with swelling around or under the eye, occasionally resembling dark circles under the eye. Festoons can be difficult to treat due to their complex nature.
What To Know When Considering Festoon Surgery Or Treatments
Before undergoing festoon surgery, it is important to determine the cause behind your festoons. While they can be a result of genetic factors and aging, festoons can also result from lifestyle factors, such as sun damage, smoking, and undergoing cosmetic fillers. It is important that your plastic surgeon understands the cause behind your festoons, in order to provide the best surgical outcome.
Choosing The Right Plastic Surgeon For Festoon Removal
Dr. Asaadi specializes in festoon surgery and revision festoon surgery, correcting the results or complications from previous festoon surgery or treatments. As festoons are difficult to treat, going to a plastic surgeon that understands and can effectively remove festoons is important. Undergoing festoon surgery with a surgeon that does not understand the intricacies of festoons can result in unsuccessful results. At Asaadi Plastic Surgery, we see an increase in patients seeking revision surgery following unsuccessful removal from other providers demonstrating ineffective techniques and understanding of the complexities and nuances of festoons and festoon removal surgery. Revision festoon surgery is normally not needed if you go to the right plastic surgeon. Even undergoing non-invasive treatments aimed at reducing festoon appearances can result in more harm than good.
Determine If You Are A Candidate For Revision Festoon Surgery
Patients that have undergone festoon surgery or non-invasive treatments such as cosmetic fillers, lasers, microneedling, and more with unsuccessful results or complications may be candidates for revision festoon surgery. Patients may be seeking revision festoon surgery due to incomplete removal, scarring, eyelid retraction, or ectropion. Ideal patients considering revision festoon surgery have waited at least 6 months after their first treatment, are in good general health, and do not smoke.
Revision Festoon Surgery – What To Expect
Dr. Asaadi and his staff at Asaadi Plastic Surgery will meet with you to evaluate the cause of your festoons. Dr. Asaadi established the Botox® Test, allowing him to diagnose if your festoons are caused by muscle laxity or excess fat. Determining the cause will provide the foundation for proper treatment. Dr. Asaadi will answer any questions you may have and provide you with a treatment plan before and after the procedure. It is important to note that any revision surgery poses unique challenges due to existing scarring and altered anatomy from the initial treatment. Working with an experienced festoon surgeon is essential to achieve the best possible results.

Dr. Asaadi and our staff at Asaadi Plastic Surgery are happy to discuss revision festoon surgery to correct results from previous surgery or treatments. Contact our New Jersey office at 973.731.7000 or request an appointment today!

Your eyes are often one of the first features people may notice about your face. As the natural course of aging occurs, your eyes can begin to make you appear older than you actually are, due to sagging skin, undereye bags, puffiness, and more. Drooping eyelids, excess skin, festoons, and fine lines are all common concerns regarding the appearance of the eyes. The condition of puffiness and excess skin around the eyes can also interfere with your ability to see clearly. These concerns can be combatted with a variety of surgical and non-surgical eyelid treatments and plastic surgery. At Asaadi Plastic Surgery, we offer traditional Blepharoplasty, Festoon surgery, Upneeq®, and Young eye rejuvenation as treatment options for the eyes. Learn more about our eye procedures below!
Blepharoplasty
Blepharoplasty, also known as eyelid surgery, is a procedure that can be performed on the upper or lower eyelids. Upper eyelid surgery can treat sagging and drooping eyelids due to excess skin, fat, and tissue. Lower eyelid surgery can be performed to treat the appearance of undereye bags and wrinkles. Eyelid surgery can restore a youthful and refreshed appearance around the eyes.
Festoon Surgery
Festoons are the puffy bags that sit under the eye and above the cheeks, and are a very prominent sign of facial aging. Festoons can be caused by excess fat or lax muscles beneath the skin. Festoon surgery can improve the appearance of festoons by removing the excess fat from the lower eyelids stabilizing the lax muscles.
Upneeq®
Upneeq® is a non-surgical treatment that can be used to combat drooping eyelids. Drooping eyelids, also known as ptosis, can obstruct your vision and affect your appearance as well. Upneeq® is a daily eye drop that lifts the eyelids, improves vision, and does not require surgery or extensive recovery periods. Upneeq® can achieve refreshed eyes and clear vision that starts working with the first treatment.
Young Eye Rejuvenation
Young eye rejuvenation is the non-surgical blepharoplasty technique you’ll find at Asaadi Plastic Surgery. Young eye rejuvenation utilizes Botox® injections and cosmetic fillers to carefully correct the appearance of crow’s feet, fine lines, and wrinkles around the eye. This technique allows for the upper and lower eyelids to be treated without surgery, and can immediately lift the eyes for a brighter, more refreshed appearance and youthful-looking eyes.
Dr. Asaadi and our staff are happy to answer any questions you may have about surgical and nonsurgical eyelid rejuvenation, as well as any of our other procedures. Contact our New Jersey office at 913.731.7000, our New York office at 212.938.0158, or you may request an appointment online today!

As the end of the summer approaches, it is important to take proper care of your skin following months of direct sun exposure. Common skin conditions that can result from being out in the sun are sun damage, wrinkles, age spots, loss of elasticity, red spots, hyperpigmentation, dry scalp and more.
At Asaadi Plastic Surgery, we offer the latest skin care treatments, facials, masks and peels to acheive a glowing complexion. We offer a variety of skin care treatments that target these problems to renew and refresh your skin following the warm summer months!
Along with our treatments, it is important to remember to always apply SPF when outdoors, relaxing by the pool or laying out at the beach to protect your skin from being damaged by the sun.
Reducing Sun Damage
Sun damage is caused by UV rays breaking down healthy skin cells. As a result, this ages the skin and encourages the development of sunspots, wrinkles, rough skin, and more.
Skin care treatment options available to help combat sun damage include:
-
PerfectDerma Peel – softens sun spots and brightens the complexion
-
RevePeel Fresh – achieves a clearer complexion and diminishes sun damage with transformative results after just one treatment
-
RevePeel – clears up skin imperfections such as sun damage for healthy, glowing skin
Get Started with Hyperpigmentation Treatment
Hyperpigmentation is a skin condition caused by an increase in melanin due to sun exposure. Melanin is a natural pigment found in your body that is responsible for producing your skin pigmentation or skin tone. When this exposure is increased from being in the sun, it can result in darker patches of skin to appear. Hyperpigmentation treatments include:
-
Skinceuticals® MicroPeel – improves hydration, reduces appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and evens skin pigmentation
-
Skinceuticals® Pigment Balancing Peel – chemical peel targeting hyperpigmentation to dramatically improve an uneven appearance
-
Skinceuticals® Vitalize Peel – improves pigmentation abnormalities and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation
-
RevePeel – clears skin imperfections such as hyperpigmentation for healthy, glowing skin
Keravive® for a Healthy Scalp
Keravive® is a minimally-invasive, 3-step solution that treats a wide variety of scalp problems. Dry scalp occurs when your scalp loses too much moisture, and it can be caused by many different factors such as air quality, over washing, weather, age, and more. Keravive® hydrates the scalp and restores scalp health. It is designed similar to a unique spa-like treatment and is meant to cleanse, exfoliate, nourish, and hydrate the scalp.
Dr. Asaadi and our team are always available to discuss any questions or concerns regarding skin care treatments, and other non-invasive treatments. Contact our New Jersey office at 913.731.7000, our New York office at 212.938.0158, or you may request an appointment online!

Eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty, can restore the appearance of drooping, tired eyes through the removal of excess skin and fat from the upper and lower eyelids. One of the most common concerns patients seeking eyelid surgery express is severe undereye bags. Often misdiagnosed, these undereye bags may actually be what is known as festoons, or malar bags. Patients with sagging skin or puffiness underneath the eyes are candidates for this procedure. Eyelid surgery achieves natural, younger-looking results.
Festoons are a genetic condition that result in puffiness below the lower eyelid and above the cheeks and can also appear as puffy eye bags. They are the result of either fat deposits around the eyes or muscle laxity. This causes the skin and face to appear tired and older-looking.
Treating and Diagnosing Festoons
The two main causes for festoons are excess fat and muscle laxity, and it is important to correctly diagnose a patient to create the proper treatment plan to remove festoons. Festoons can be particularly difficult to diagnose, which is why Dr. Asaadi has pioneered the Botox® Test for diagnosing and treatment.
Through the Botox® Test, a small amount of Botox is injected into the area around the eye. If the festoons become worse, the root cause is muscle laxity. This can be treated through releasing ligaments of surrounding eye muscles to reduce puffiness. If there is no change after the injection, the root cause is excess fat. This can be treated by surgically removing the fat deposits.
Why Choose Dr. Asaadi to Remove Festoons?
Dr. Asaadi specializes in diagnosing and treating festoons. Blepharoplasty is considered one of the most difficult plastic surgery procedures, and it requires expertise, attention to detail, and a highly skilled surgeon to perform correctly. If too much fat is removed from the lower eye, it can create a hollow look. Dr. Asaadi utilizes a unique method of correcting hollowness and puffiness, resulting in a youthful, fuller, and refreshed appearance.
